Korifoudi

If you want to see how much of Kerkini's magic has nothing to do with size, Korifoudi is the place. It's one of the smallest villages on the lake, home to barely more than twenty people, tucked along the lakeside road that connects Lithotopos with Kerkini village on the western shore. Just south of it, the shoreline opens into the Korifoudi flats, a wide expanse of shallow mud and marsh that's one of the richest feeding grounds on the whole lake. Dalmatian pelicans and pygmy cormorants fish in the shallows here, white and black storks pick their way across the mud, and overhead, black kites, booted eagles, and short-toed snake eagles ride the thermals coming off the Krousia foothills. The bushes along the shore stay busy too, full of warblers and buntings moving through.

Korifoudi doesn't try to be more than it is: a handful of houses, a single small guesthouse tucked into a garden, and one of the quietest, most rewarding stretches of shoreline on the entire lake, right on its doorstep.
